Education
In case you missed it…
Bill Moloney, a Line of Sight Contributing Editor, has written an excellent op-ed on education reform that appeared in Tuesday’s Rocky Mountain News. Bill is a former Commissioner of Education, a post that makes him exceedingly qualified to comment on how much damage will be done to Colorado’s educational system by current “reforms.”
Those Champions of Diversity from Boulder - Only 2.8% (23 0f 823) at CU are Republicans
Ed Rozek, Professor Emeritus at the University of Colorado, thought the public berating of Bruce Benson by the CU faculty was outrageous. He also thought there was more to it than just questioning Benson’s qualifications. Could the “lynching of Bruce Benson†have had something to do with his involvement in Republican party politics?
So, [...]
Regent Bosley on how they hired Benson
Steve Bosley, the chairman of the CU President search committee and CU Regent, explains the search and selection process for hiring CU’s newest president — philanthropist, oil man, and political activist Bruce Benson. His op-ed from the Daily Camera can be found here.
“It has been inspiring to see that so many Coloradans care so passionately [...]
In Case You Missed It: Polly Baca: “School choice the objective solution”
Polly Baca has spent nearly her entire life as a Democrat activist and elected official. She’s been very active with unions, feminist causes, and minority rights especially for Latinos. Currently she is Executive Director of the Latin American Research and Services Agency. Polly sees the world from a far more liberal perspective than I do, [...]
Education: Hugo Chavez Style
Socialist thug Hugo Chavez, the president/dictator of Venezuela is clamping down on the schools. Whether it’s a Stalin, Hitler, Castro, Saddam Hussein, the Taliban, or Chavez, controlling the minds of the little ones is the strategy of totalitarian regimes every time. By usurping the authority of parents and indoctrinating the children with state-think propaganda, much [...]
Christian fraternity sues U of Florida for Discrimination
As yet another confusing chapter of “The times we live in” chronicles, Beta Upsilon Chi, a Christian men’s fraternity has filed suit against the University of Florida because the University will neither recognize it as part of the Greek system on campus, nor as a registered student group. These recognitions are important to the fraternity’s [...]
In Case You Missed It: Ward Churchill Fired
It wasn’t his outrageous comments about Sept. 11 and “little Eichmann’s” that got Ward Churchill fired. CU President Hank Brown asserts that with the privilege and distinction of professorship comes responsibility and accountability. The Board of Regents backed up Brown’s firing of Churchill after an exhaustive investigation by more than 20 of his peers determined [...]
Good News of the Month: Arrupe Jesuit High School
School’s out, and the papers have been full of stories about some of the struggles and challenges that students, parents, teachers and society in general face in today’s society. Much of the news and data is not all that encouraging. But, some certainly is.
As reported in a Denver Post front page feature story, Arrupe Jesuit [...]
Why they call it the “People’s Republic of Boulder”
Some think it’s funny, a few find it offensive, and many see it as a badge of honor – nonetheless, the Boulder Valley School District has again given people who live “outside the wall” further reason to refer to Boulder as a planet unto itself.
In the May issue of A Line of Sight we reported [...]
Greenspan on Education
On May 15 Claudia and I had the pleasure of attending the AMB National Trust Bank-sponsored luncheon event featuring former Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Alan Greenspan. He delivered no formal remarks but did Q & A for almost 90 minutes with the 400 attendees. It was a remarkable opportunity as he was quizzed about everything [...]
