Enforce the law, then go to jail?

Posted on Thursday 22 February 2007

Want to get your blood pressure up? Check out [link] the following sagas of Border Patrol Agents Jose Alonso Compean, Ignacio Ramos, and David Sipe.

Three men hired to secure our borders and enforce the law. And, I believe they did just that. Yet, the United States government prosecuted all three and sentenced them to jail. While Sipe’s conviction has been overturned, the real story is how US prosecutors bought the testimony of criminal aliens to convict an American law enforcement officer.

Ramos and Compean are sitting in prison now. If ever a case called for common-sense to prevail, this is one. President Bush should have already pardoned these two men. I call upon him to do it now [link]. Mr. President, this is an example of why our citizens are so enraged about the problem of illegal immigration.

Unfortunately, all too often our judicial system gets all wrapped up in “lawyerese” and worried about the rights of criminals and even terrorists (see Gittmo) instead of just doing and defending what makes sense.
