In the May 28 issue of The Weekly Standard, associate editor Matthew Continetti penned an exceptional feature article (”Liberal Hawks, an Endangered Species“) about the evolution of many of the Democrat Senators that would be President in the post 9/11 era and in particular as the 2008 election campaign ramps up. He also tracks the migration of opinion of many of the liberal “intellectuals,” who like the Senators have gone through a metamorphosis in the last few years – right along with public opinion polls. It’s a fascinating analysis and a telling tale of the whimsical ability to rationalize and maneuver across the entire spectrum of opinion on the most critical issues of our time while always pretending to be anchored in bedrock principles.
