If a world, and particularly a Middle East, fed by radical Islamic jihad isn’t frightening enough already, there is now reason to believe that Syria is also pursuing nuclear capabilities. It’s a concern that they naturally deny.
Nonetheless, press reports provide considerable credible cause for concern. The Washington Post has focused on the issue since the air strike inside Syrian borders by Israeli jets on September 6. Air strikes by Israel are not unusual, but they are typically accompanied by disclosure of what and why the strike was carried out. Absolute silence surrounded the Sept. 6 strike, but all roads seem to lead to suspicion that the Syrians were construction a nuke plant with an assist from the North Koreans.
Intelligence about the Syrian nuclear plant construction facility was reportedly a cooperative effort between the U.S. and Israel.
The possibility of both Syria and Iran having nukes should more than double the alarm about the threat from these promoters and exporters of jihad and terror. But, thus far, most of the media and the world have been silent.
All of this is a backdrop to the United Nations visit this week by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Talk about letting the fox into the hen house.
While reports indicate Washington wasn’t necessarily supportive of the air strike, it is clear the Israelis understand the nature of the threat they face, and are more than willing to act in their own best interests. Israel learned a long time ago negotiations and diplomacy with terrorists only advantages the bad guys – it gives them time to plan their madness.
