As the 39th President, Jimmy Carter is remembered for run-away inflation, for being unable to free hostages trapped in Tehran for 444 days, for insulting American citizens for being in a “malaise,†and for making nice with PLO terrorist Yasser Arafat. Carter was perhaps our biggest Presidential foreign policy disaster.Â
Now, though, he’s volunteered to go to Syria and meet with the leadership of Hamas. Other than al Qaeda, Hamas has more innocent blood on their terrorist hands than any radical Islamic organization. News of Carter’s Hamas trip sparked criticism from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and from Israel. Even other Democrats have pleaded with Carter to not legitimize Hamas with a visit.Â
Barack Obama has promised that he would gladly negotiate with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the nuclear weapons obsessed Iranian President. Maybe, Carter is looking for a job as Secretary of State for the naïve junior Senator from Illinois. They seem a perfect match.Â
