Obama-Biden: A “balanced” ticket?

Posted on Sunday 24 August 2008

The Democrat Presidential ticket is set with the selection of Senator Joseph Biden as the VP. Biden has well established credentials as a true blue liberal.

The National Journal rates members of congress annually on large number of votes cast on social, economic, and foreign policy issues ending in a most liberal-to-most conservative ranking of all the members. In 2007 at total of 99 key votes were tabulated, and Barack Obama was rated the most liberal member of the United States Senate. Joe Biden was third – more liberal than the admitted socialist, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, or Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, or John Kerry.

From the National Journal’s 2007 vote ratings:

“The ratings system — devised in 1981 under the direction of William Schneider, a political analyst and commentator, and a contributing editor to National Journal — also assigns “composite” scores, an average of the members’ issue-based scores. In 2007, Obama’s composite liberal score of 95.5 was the highest in the Senate. Rounding out the top five most liberal senators last year were Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., with a composite liberal score of 94.3; Joseph Biden, D-Del., with a 94.2; Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., with a 93.7; and Robert Menendez, D-N.J., with a 92.8.”

Biden is staunchly pro-abortion although he says he’s a Catholic. He gets an “F” from the National Rifle Association and a “0″ from Americans for Tax Reform. He is the Democrat Party hack who presided over the witch hunts disguised as a Senate confirmation hearing of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas. He voted against them both.

They now have #1 and #3 most liberal Senators as a ticket. Forget about “balance” – it is hard to imagine a more liberal ticket ever in American political history.
